Sven warning for Elano
by Alex Livie, 30 January 2008
Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has warned Brazilian Elano that he will have to adapt to the rigours of The Premier League.
The Brazilian made a sparkling start to life in England, but his form has dipped in recent weeks and he was on the end of some tough tackles against Sheffield United at the weekend.
Eriksson feels Elano could be in for more of the same after reacting to Gary Speed’s constant shadowing and has informed the Brazilian that he needs to adapt his game.
"Elano was very frustrated and I have spoken to him privately about it,” said the Swede.
"That is the price you pay for being a good player in a team that wants to play football.
"You just have to stand up and handle it, that's what you do."
There are just two days to run on the January transfer window, but Eriksson has not given up hope of adding to his ranks.
He said: "We are working and trying for two new players. It is really difficult to get really big ones as clubs do not want to release them in January.
"If we are not successful now, we will do our business in the summer."
