Burnley deny Riordan bid

Riordan: No Burnley bid

Burnley boss Owen Coyle has poured cold water on reports suggesting he has renewed his interest in Celtic forward Derek Riordan.

Riordan would appear to have no future at Celtic, having found it tough to force his way into Gordon Strachan’s plans at Parkhead.

The Clarets failed with a bid to land Riordan in January and Coyle claims their interest has waned since the winter.

“I don't know where it has come from but it's certainly not from anyone at Burnley Football Club,” said Coyle.

"It's well-documented I tried to sign him in January but there has been nothing since."

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
