Ajax smash record for striker

Ajax have smashed the Dutch transfer record to sign Miralem Sulejmani from Heerenveen for €16.2 million (£12.8million).

The previous record also involved a transaction between Ajax and Heerenveen when the Dutch giants procured the signature of Holland international Klaas Jan Huntelaar for €9 million in 2005.

Ajax confirmed the terms of the transfer on their official website and reports suggest Sulejmani is to sign a four-year contract.

The 19-year-old Serbia international, who scored 15 times in 34 league appearances last season, will become Marco van Basten’s second signing following the acquisition of Argentine striker Dario Cvitanich.

Mark - 05 July 2008 17:06: They definitely have! Funny, or embarrassing, thing is that before Heerenveen signed Sulejmani he was offered to Ajax, but Van Geel (Ajax' tech. director) wasn't convinced. After all he went to Heerenveen for only 300.000 euro's and now we paid 16 million euro's more than we could've paid back then (but you would almost say that that's the usual way with Ajax...).; Report this to a moderator

Now we definitely need at least two defenders. Rumours say that we will sign Oleguer (Barcelona) and take over Henrique, also from Barcelona, on a loan deal.; Report this to a moderator

kuya - 05 July 2008 02:20: Heerenveen have sold top quality strikers before. Huntelaar, van Nistelrooy, Bruggink, Afonso Alves, Tomasson, Samaras, Allback, & this time Sulejmani. Most of them came from different clubs before joining Heerenveen, so it proved that they have a good or great scouting system.; Report this to a moderator

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not.
