Opportunity Knox for Archie

Paul Ince has secured his first signing as Blackburn Rovers manager – the acquisition of veteran Scottish coach Archie Knox.

The 61-year-old former Scotland and Manchester United employee has agreed to become Ince’s new first-team coach.

Knox, who was a caretaker manager of Bolton last season, left The Reebok Stadium in May.

Confirming Knox’s appointment, Rovers chairman John Williams said: “We are delighted to welcome Archie on board.

“Paul made it clear from the outset he wanted an experienced coach to work alongside him, and there aren’t many people out there with a better CV than Archie’s.

“He’s worked at the top level for most of his career, and we believe we now have the perfect blend of youth and experience within our new-look managerial team.”

Who should coach the GB football team in 2012?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
