Third Reds signing imminent

Liverpool are on the verge of signing Palmeiras goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, according to the Brazilian’s agent.

The 26-year-old's representative Juninho Parmigiani claims he has been given the go-ahead by Palmeiras to close negotiations with The Reds when he travels to England this weekend.

With Charles Itandje doing little to impress, Rafa Benitez has been keen to recruit cover for first choice Jose Reina and Cavalieri, the understudy to Brazil veteran Marcos, would appear to fit the bill.

"We have been allowed to travel to Liverpool to sort it out. A few details need to be resolved but it'll be okay soon," Juninho told TV Globo.

The agent added to gazetaesportiva.net: "I believe everything is going to be resolved this weekend.

"If everything goes as it was agreed, he is going to sign the contract and be introduced."

Cavalieri will become Benitez's third signing of the summer after his earlier captures of Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena.

Why are we going for some Brazilian GK when there are plenty of good promising young english ones. Carson doesn't want to stay - fine sell him and buy one of the other promising ones and someone like Niemi who is happy to sit on the bench. We need a couple of wingers - Shaun Wright-Phillips, he was a target a few years back. Barry is a target I agree with. Micah Richards or M Johnston if we don't get Barry. Dotsey - 05 July 2008 17:18: N Khan, do you know how much we paid for Nunez, Josemi and Kromkamp?? well Nunez was a free transfers in the Owen deal, Josemi was 2.5m and when he didnt settle we simply swapped him for Kromkamp in the hope that we could use Kromkamp as a make weight in the Kuyt deal during the following summer. So its not like Rafa is wasting money on Veron's, Klebersons and Crespos of this world. Rafa - 05 July 2008 10:16: lfc, as if barca are going to sell bojan he is one of their stars for the future and david silva looks to lightweight, just because he's good on champ manager doesn't mean he will be good in the prem. Rafa knows what he is doing, by spending less on the positions where we only need back-up we will have more to spend on other players, we need players who wont need a season to settle in and will play good straight away, thats why rafa is targeting prem players like barry and keane.; Report this to a moderator

Stop being so ignorant and give this lad a chance. “I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
