Toffees' new assistant confirmed

Everton have confirmed the appointment of Steve Round as David Moyes’s new assistant manager.

The announcement follows lengthy talks between The Toffees and Newcastle, the club where Round held the post of first-team coach.

Moyes has been without an assistant since Alan Irvine left to manage Preston in November and Round is delighted to have been given the chance to become a number two.

Round told EvertonTV: "Once David asked me, and I met him, it was a definite.

"He sold me the club, he sold me the ideas, he sold me how he was moving it forward and how he wanted to take the next step.

"I said I would definitely come and here we are."

Who should coach the GB football team in 2012?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
