Poyet: Keane's going nowhere

Tottenham’s assistant manager Gus Poyet has warned Robbie Keane he will not be allowed to leave the club.

Keane has been linked with a move to Liverpool with boss Rafa Benitez reportedly eager to pair the Republic of Ireland international with Fernando Torres.

But Poyet has told Benitez to forget about prising the forward away from White Hart Lane as Spurs will not let their best players leave.

Poyet said in the Sunday Star: “We can’t afford to let Robbie go.

“We have lost Jermain Defoe and, hopefully Dimitar Berbatov will stay.

“If we lost Robbie it would be too much.

“We have to keep our best players if we want to achieve something.”

quincy - 09 July 2008 23:17: Some of the comments here are laughable. Keane is one signing above all others which could finally ignite LFC. Along with Gerrard and Carragher, Keane has been my favourite player over the years. Ever since he played in Italy I have hugely admired his talents. Barry is well worth £18m and even if it takes £22m to get Keane, Rafa should pay it. He has bought some crap over the years. When I first heard he wanted Keane (aswell as Barry), I thought "well done Rafa! Well done for finally showing you know what you're doing when it comes to buying players in". Players like Voronin, Bellamy, Pennant, Babel and Riise (amongst others) would never in a million years have got to worn the red shirt in Shankly's or Paisely's day.; Report this to a moderator

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
