Kuyt tips Torres to progress

Torres: High praise

Dirk Kuyt has fired a warning to Liverpool’s Premier League rivals by insisting Fernando Torres will take his game forward in the new season.

Spain star Torres proved a huge hit in his first season in England, bagging 24 league goals for The Reds, but Kuyt feels it was just a taster for better to come.

”It’s true, I think he can be even better this season,” said Kuyt.

“He is only 23 and can only get better and better.”

Some players have suffered a dip in form in their second season, but Kuyt is convinced Torres will buck the trend.

The Dutchman added: “Fernando already knows how difficult The Premier League can be — but he did really well last year.

“The only thing he has to be careful about is that people know him now.

“But for a player with his qualities, he is always going to be difficult to play against.

“He knows that and the defenders know that as well — and they will be afraid of him. If he stays fit he can do even better than last season.”

2005 - 25 July 2008 22:47: I think that most people would be arguing against the Kuyt situation and he does need to go. I would rather see Keane(when we sign him) playing alongside Torres rather than Kuyt. you keep mentioning over and over again about Kuyt running and never giving up... so what? im sure if Liverpool gave Pennant the chance to play, he would do the same and give 110%, you have no point to prove LiverpoolInmyBlood and dont even try to compare Kuyt with Rooney, you will have a lot of Manure fans laughing at you and to be honest, so would the Liverpool fans. last season Rooney scored 15 league goals... how many did Kuyt score? the only 2 i remember were the two penalties he scored against Everton. You need to be thinking about the future with the likes of Pacheco, Nemeth who at some point will be in the squad.; Report this to a moderator

LiverpoolInmyblood - 24 July 2008 20:55: There is no question that Fernando Torres is one of, if not THE best contender for being the best strikers in the world even now. The kid is 24, and has not reached his peak yet. He says himself that he is always looking to improve, and i'm sure he will. We know that he is a decent lad too and what I mean is that he signed for Liverpool from the club he supported as a kid, so its not like a clubs like Real are going to be more attractive in 2 or 3 seasons and sell us out. He chose to come to us when he could have signed for any of the major clubs, and they would have snapped him up in a heart beat. I recon that Dirk Kuyt doesnt get the praise he deserves you know, and the fans who are saying that we should get rid should have a good look at his game. The lad never stops running, never gives up and never complains and chips in with some valuable goals. Fair enough, he's not as prolific as Torres, but then again neither is Rooney and he cost 3 times as much a Kuyt. He's a good lad.; Report this to a moderator

lfc09 - 24 July 2008 18:50: yea with torres on our team i think he will improve and be the best player in the world in 2 years or next year!fair enough that defenders know him but he knows the premier league and how defenders play as well. he'll be great for us and will win us the tittle like he said after he won the euro 2008 with spain. we'll keep him happy and he'll keep us happy with goals and trophies and one day he should be given the armband since he is learning form the best with gerrard.; Report this to a moderator

LFC - 24 July 2008 09:53: I think he is right, Torres last year had a couple of games where he missed lots of chances, if he starts banging them in for fun away from Anfield as well, then he'll get 30+ in the league. “I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
