Nakamura to miss season opener

Shunsuke Nakamura has confirmed the news all Celtic fans were fearing, declaring: “I may miss the opening games of the season.”

Nakamura is suffering with a long-term groin problem that is currently stopping him completing a full training session.

Celtic’s left-footed craftsman will travel to see a specialist in Germany, but he is expected to be out for at least four weeks.

“I’m running in the morning and doing afternoon training sessions while we’re here in Portugal but I know now I may miss the opening games of the season,” stated a gutted Nakamura in The Daily Record.

“That would be a big disappointment for me.

“I had pain in my ankle, knee and groin throughout last season. My ankle and knee are better but my groin is taking time to heal.

“It bothered me when I was away with the national team in Japan during the summer.

“I was given medicine to help the pain but my groin was not working well. It’s getting better but slowly.”

Football Poll

Who should coach the GB football team in 2012?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
