Bolton boss Gary Megson has added to his attacking options with the loan capture of Ebi Smolarek from Racing Santander.
Megson saw summer signing Johan Elmander pick up a hamstring injury last week and although the Swede is unlikely to be out for too long, he has moved to bring in another option.
Poland international Smolarek has signed a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
A statement on the Spanish club's website read: "Racing and Bolton have reached an agreement for the loan of Ebi Smolarek to the British team until June 30, 2009.
"As well as that, the English outfit have an option to buy the Polish striker."
The 27-year-old numbers Feyenoord and Borussia Dortmund among his former clubs and he scored nine goals during Poland's European Championship qualifying campaign but failed to find the target in Austria and Switzerland.
