Chelsea's Anelka is fine

Chelsea's Anelka is fine

Nicolas Anelka picked up a muscle injury during the victory over Aston Villa, but the Chelsea striker ‘is fine’ and may feature in France’s World Cup qualifier in Romania.

Raymond Domenech has revealed that the talented attacker underwent further tests that have confirmed Anelka is almost certain to be fit to face Romania at the weekend.

The French hit-man is currently enjoying a fine spell with both his club and country, and has six goals to his name in all competitions this season.

“There was a slight doubt over Nico’s fitness, but we met the doctor and he told us it’s fine for the moment,” Domenech told reporters.

Portsmouth's heart and soul Lassana Diarra is absent due to a left knee injury, but Domenech will not be able to replace him with former Arsenal star Mathieu Flamini, as the midfielder picked up an ankle knock with Milan.

Football Poll

Who should be Arsenal captain?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
