Black Cats midfielder on the move

Kavanagh: On the move

Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh has joined Carlisle United on loan and will spend one month with the League One side.

Kavanagh last played for The Black Cats in January, with an FA Cup appearance against Wigan sandwiched between successive loan spells with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The 34-year-old joins Carlisle as cover for the injured Paul Thirlwell and Chris Lumsdon and will look to impress at Brunton Park having been frozen out of the first team picture at Sunderland.

“Graham is a very good player and he also comes with experience and knowledge,” Carlisle manager John Ward told the club’s official website.

“He can help us on the pitch with the way that he can play the game and he can also bring that experience in to it as well.”

Who should be Arsenal captain?

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
