Norman: My head is held high

Greg Norman says his latest near miss at a Major, is not in the body blow category.

The Great White Shark, who led by two shots overnight at the Open, had to settle for a share of third after things generally unravelled on the last day.

Norman has won two Majors, both of them at the Open, but the Australian has been thwarted by some outrageous misfortune in others.

“Where does it rank in those? Probably not as high as some of the other ones,” Norman said.

“Quite honestly, I’m sure I surprised a lot of people.”

The 53-year-old was bidding to become the oldest winner in the history of the Majors, and his closing 77 leaves Norman with mixed views.

“I walk away from here disappointed, but with my head held high, because I hung in there,” added the Australian.

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“I'm glad he's staying!! For a few weeks there I thought we were going to get ripped off TWICE in 1 summer! Robbie Keane is a very good footballer but worth £20million i'm not sure. £18million for Barry and £12million for Alonso!! Jesus is it just me or does EVERYONE else see that as terrible business?? Rafa has a plan that he obviously thought Barry would be the perfect cog in his midfield machine but maybe next year, maybe not. I'm not sure about Riera but i'm willing to give him a chance like he deserves!! I hope we win the league this year but Chelsea are looking very strong.”
